Ditching the excuses

The upcoming rebrand

This site is about to get a facelift and be rebranded under the name “MindFuel Blog.” People who know me know I have a brand for every day of the week. It’s just too much fun and plays well into my addiction for domain names.

Why the change? Think about this site: htd.cloud. Yes, it’s my initials, my personal site, my own little slice of the cloud… but, it just doesn’t feel like a personal brand, does it? When I stack htd.cloud against mindfuel.blog, the answer becomes painfully obvious. Being “mindful” is also a thing, ergo I just “bought a vowel.”

Making excuses

Why this post? Well, I have this backlog of content. I found myself dragging my feet – waiting for the rebranded site. I posted once earlier this month, and that’s my only post for 2022. Way to go with my New Year’s resolution. Clearly then, the rebrand has become the latest excuse. Weeks go by, months go by, and I am silent.

It’s fascinating how many layers of excuses, doubt and fear I can peel away from my life and still fall into old or unhealthy patterns. Hello excuse #1,237,556,219. Off you go now! I have some writing to do.

Ditching excuses yet again

Selfishly, I wrote this post for me — to remind me that even though branding is important, it is certainly not an excuse to let the crickets be front and center on my website. But then, as the internet has shown time and time again, if I’m making excuses, there are other people feeling the same way. Maybe writing this post will help you let go of your excuse #1,237,556,219.

There is always a way to take a step, even just one, towards an idea, dream or creative effort. Eventually, there might be a transition point that demands a substantially risky decision, a “fork in the the life path road,” but those are not as frequent as people might think. Usually, by breaking ideas into smaller and smaller steps, it’s possible to spot the steps we can try and steps we can skip or defer on the road to fulfilling an idea or goal. Taking those smaller steps also has a side benefit of letting us “test the water”, get feedback and even improve on our original idea.

Keep the faith

For me, the most important step I can take is generating content. I am re-upping on my commitment to producing heart-felt, entertaining, useful content this year. Most importantly, I want to continuously engages multiple facets of my mind and also the minds of anyone who stumbles across my corner of the web. I don’t need a new shiny website to do that. All I need is a computer, internet connection and THIS website.

Besides, if I start getting into the groove now, then by the time my new site is ready to launch, I will already be in the habit of producing the content for it. How’s that for turning the tables on my excuses? Take that, excuses! Ha! Pfthththtth!

I am still excited about my new brand. I think it will help a lot, but let’s just “flip that dog” as my previous yoga instructor would say. I don’t need my personal brand. My personal brand needs me.

How about you: What things can you skip or defer, and still take a step towards your idea today?
